Nope are a band from Yorkshire in the UK who mean business. Their self-released debut album, Revisions is a masterful barrage of spacey, pounding riffage that I’ve had blasting out of my speakers for about a week now.

As suggested with song titles like Behind the Skullbong, there’s a stoner-metal vibe to the band’s sound, which revolves around tribal, cyclical drumming and interwoven guitars.

Oneida – The Ocropolis III

On October 1st, Oneida performed the third of their ‘Ocropolis’ sessions at ATP’s I’ll Be Your Mirror event in New York. Essentially a improv musical marathon, the Ocropolis sees the band enlist various guest musicians and peers to join them on an 8-hour jam.

The Ocropolis III saw the band perform with members of Portishead (the festival curators), Boredoms, Chavez, Yo La Tengo and many more. Now, those nice folks at NPR have made the entire 7 hour session available for streaming and download on their site here.

Here’s a snippet from the new killer split record from Oneida & Mugstar which is out now on Rocket Recordings.

The Pyschic Paramount’s ‘II’ knocked the shit out of anything else I’ve mildly enjoyed so far this year. The experimental racket starts off pretty slowly before blowing up into some wild, loose noise skronk mid-way through DDB, morphing back and forth between bruising riffage and reassuring swells without ever feeling predictable or safe. Technically stunning and highly charged from start to finish.

I’ve made a Spotify playlist of my favourite music of 2011 (thus far), ranging from Blissturd standards to straight up pop and folk music . The loud stuff is toward the end of the list:
